Why the origin of elevator replacement parts matters in Vietnam
Replacement parts are a critical factor in the safety, reliability and service life of an elevator. However, not every product marketed as a Shanghai Mitsubishi part is genuine or supplied through an authorised distribution system.

Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevator (SMEC) has recently issued an official notice on the supply and distribution of genuine replacement parts in Vietnam. The notice is intended to protect customers, authorised dealers and partners, and the SMEC brand’s reputation in the market.
This information is particularly important for investors, building-management boards, operators and maintenance providers using Shanghai Mitsubishi elevators, as well as those who expect to replace parts in the near future.
Why is the origin of elevator parts important?
An elevator is a highly integrated technical system. Components such as controllers, inverters, circuit boards, sensors, door equipment and safety devices must not only meet the correct technical specifications; they must also be compatible with the equipment configuration and control system.

For that reason, selecting replacement parts is not as simple as finding a product with a similar appearance or specification. A part of unknown origin can lead to:
- Unstable operation or faults;
- Reduced reliability of the elevator system;
- Difficulty establishing responsibility when an incident occurs;
- Difficulty tracing the product’s origin and quality;
- Shorter service life of related equipment; and
- In particular, where safety systems are involved, an unsuitable part can increase risks to users.
Therefore, when replacing elevator parts, the principle of “the correct origin – the correct type – the correct configuration – the correct supplying dealer” should come first.
Shanghai Mitsubishi recommends genuine parts from authorised suppliers
According to SMEC’s official notice, genuine Shanghai Mitsubishi replacement parts are supplied through dealers, distributors and partners officially authorised by SMEC.
In Vietnam, SMEC lists the following official organisations: Viet Chao Joint Stock Company
Customers who need to purchase or verify SMEC parts should contact authorised organisations directly to check their origin, authenticity and compatibility with the equipment in use.
Viet Chao – more than 20 years alongside SMEC in Vietnam
Among the dealers announced by Shanghai Mitsubishi, Viet Chao Joint Stock Company has worked as an SMEC dealer and partner in Vietnam for more than 20 years. Throughout its relationship with SMEC, Viet Chao has supplied elevator products, parts and solutions, while helping customers identify the appropriate part type and supply source for their equipment.
For elevator systems that have operated for many years, finding the correct replacement part is sometimes not straightforward. A part number can vary by equipment generation, configuration or system version. Therefore, checking the model, part number and actual configuration before placing an order is an important step in avoiding incorrect or incompatible purchases.

A Shanghai Mitsubishi label does not automatically mean a part is genuine
Customers should pay particular attention to one point: a brand name on a product or in advertising does not necessarily mean the product is supplied or authorised by SMEC.

According to the notice, Shanghai Mitsubishi does not authorise organisations or individuals outside its official dealer and partner system to use the Shanghai Mitsubishi name for trading, distributing or supplying SMEC parts.
SMEC also notes that officially supplied genuine parts must not be provided to other organisations for assembly into elevators sold under another trade name or form, including products promoted as Shanghai Mitsubishi joint-venture elevators, without SMEC’s official confirmation and approval.
This helps customers understand an important point:
The origin of a part must be verified through the supplier and distribution system, not only through a label or a seller’s statement.
5 things customers should check before purchasing elevator parts
If you manage a building, apartment block, hotel, factory or project using Shanghai Mitsubishi elevators, check at least the following five points before buying replacement parts.
Is the elevator dealer you are buying from part of the authorised system?
Customers should visit the official Shanghai Mitsubishi website (the manufacturer’s official link: here) and find dealer information for their area before contacting that dealer. This helps ensure that genuine, reliable parts are supplied at the appropriate price.

Does the part match the correct code and equipment configuration?
Two parts may look similar but may not be interchangeable. When requesting a quotation, customers should provide the dealer with:
- The elevator model;
- Equipment serial or identification number, if available;
- The part number;
- Images of the part currently in use; and
- Information about the control system or elevator generation where necessary.
This information helps identify the correct part more accurately.
Can the part’s origin be traced easily?
A professional dealer should be able to explain clearly where a product comes from, which system it is used for, and what evidence confirms its origin. If a seller cannot provide clear information about a product’s origin, customers should be cautious before making a decision.

Are the replacement parts compatible?
“It fits” does not mean “it works correctly”. Especially for electrical, electronic and elevator-control equipment, compatibility must be assessed against the technical configuration rather than only dimensions or external appearance.
Who is responsible if a problem occurs?
This question is often overlooked.
When a part is purchased from an unclear source, it can be difficult to establish responsibility for quality, compatibility or resulting faults.
By contrast, working with an authorised supplier gives customers a clearer basis for verifying the product and receiving relevant support.

When should you contact a Shanghai Mitsubishi authorised provider?
Customers should proactively contact an SMEC-authorised provider when they:
- Need to replace a circuit board, inverter or control equipment;
- Need parts for an elevator that has operated for many years;
- Cannot identify the exact part number;
- Are offered parts using the SMEC name but with an unclear origin;
- Need to verify whether a part is genuine;
- Need to check whether a part is compatible with their elevator model; or
- Need a suitable alternative when an older part is no longer available.
Rather than only asking “How much does the part cost?”, customers should also ask:
“Where does this part come from?”
“Is the supplier authorised by SMEC?”
“Does this part match my elevator’s configuration?”
“How can its authenticity and compatibility be verified?”
These questions help investors and operating organisations make decisions with more complete information.

Viet Chao | A 20-year dealer, supporting the equipment throughout its life cycle
With more than 20 years alongside SMEC in Vietnam, Viet Chao understands that an elevator system must not only be specified correctly at the outset; it must also be maintained with appropriate products and solutions throughout its operation.
Viet Chao aims to provide customers with not only parts, but also accurate product information, suitable selection advice and verification support when required.
For projects using Shanghai Mitsubishi elevators in particular, identifying the correct part from the beginning can reduce handling time, avoid incorrect purchases and help maintain stable equipment operation.
Do you need to check or purchase Shanghai Mitsubishi parts?
If you need replacement parts for a Shanghai Mitsubishi elevator, prepare the elevator model, part number (if available) and actual images of the equipment so that the information can be checked.
Contact Viet Chao via hotline 0898 55 28 88 for advice on origin, part number and compatibility before placing an order.
Note: Customers should verify the origin of parts and the supplier before purchasing. The use of non-genuine or untraceable parts can affect the quality, reliability and safety of the equipment. According to SMEC’s notice, SMEC is not responsible for incidents arising from customers’ use of non-genuine or untraceable parts.
